About the role:

Join Takeda as the Digital Ethics & Data Privacy Officer at the Director level, supporting our Oncology Business Unit (OBU) and reporting directly to the Head of Ethics & Compliance, OBU. In this strategic leadership role, you will serve as a trusted advisor to Digital Data & Technology (DD&T) and Insights & Analytics (I&A), ensuring the ethical and compliant use of data and emerging technologies across the business. You will lead initiatives to develop procedures, training, and monitoring plans that manage digital ethics and privacy risks, support privacy impact assessments, and respond to regulatory changes and incidents. As a member of both the OBU and Global Digital Ethics & Compliance leadership teams, you will help shape Takeda’s approach to responsible innovation, translating complex regulatory requirements into actionable guidance and representing OBU in internal and external networks to maintain subject matter expertise. This is a unique opportunity to drive meaningful impact at the intersection of ethics, technology, and oncology.

How you will contribute:

  • Business partner: Acts as the DE&C business partner to OBU DD&T and Insights and Analytics (I&A) teams, proactively acting as an ethics advisor concerning the responsible use of digital technology and data.

  • Guidance & Contracting: Provides subject matter expertise across OBU, including in relation to internal data acquisition, data management and commercial reporting to ensure ethical implementation and compliance with Takeda privacy policies and applicable regulations.  Identify opportunities for E&C related insights in available data and systems.

  • Compliance & Monitoring: Develops and deploys guidance, metrics and tools to support and monitor compliance with emerging technologies, privacy regulations, and internal standards in coordination with the Global DE&C team.

  • Written Standards: Co-creates, leverages, and implements tools/resources from Global DE&C to put in place processes and procedures for OBU that enable ethics and privacy by design across data acquisition, data management/reporting, data access, use of machine learning, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

  • Risk Assessment: Evaluates and advises the OBU on digital ethics and privacy risks associated with new technologies, programs, and systems and supports OBU with completion of Privacy Impact Assessments and associated remedial steps identified.

  • Subject Requests: Support the Global Privacy Office and OBU to ensure timely response to data subject requests and maintain compliance documentation.

  • Training: Support dissemination and delivery of digital ethics and data privacy training initiatives at USOBU and global OBU levels.

  • Vendor Due Diligence: Conduct E&C related vendors due diligent assessments for US-OBU vendors and support the Global Privacy Office in relation to privacy issues identified in relation to OBU vendors.

  • Regulatory Changes/Engagement with local authorities: Work in partnership with other E&C colleagues and support analysis of business impact of new rules or regulations affecting the US market and USOBU, coordinating a joint effort when applicable. Support response to requests/inspections from regulators in connection with digital and data privacy matters.

  • Privacy Incidents: Support investigation of privacy incidents, reporting obligations and remediation efforts.

  • Team Representative: Represent the OBU in internal and external networks, committees and groups to support the business, for benchmarking purposes and to maintain and enhance required subject matter expertise.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree required.  Preference for an advanced degree in digital systems or data, law, business, or related data expertise area

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry and/or other highly regulated industry with substantial experience as part of or partnering with Ethics & Compliance, Legal or other highly regulated functions

  • Privacy Certification(s) like IAPP-CIPM/CIPT/CIPE or equivalent are a plus

  • Proven track record of project and process development, implementation, and management

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and ability to prioritize.

  • Team player with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong ethical behavior, with the ability to remain impartial and report all non-compliance. Role model for Takeda values.

  • Skilled in influencing without authority, acting as lead business partner working with diverse stakeholders in a cross-functional capacity and achieving results in international highly matrixed organization

  • Leadership capabilities, including ability to interact with and advise senior business leaders & influence business stakeholders across the organization; confidence and ability to interact with regulatory authorities and experts as appropriate.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to advise on risk-based decisions involving reputational and financial risk and to act with a high degree of integrity and with autonomy.

  • Mindset of curiosity, learning agility and interest in innovative ways of doing things.

  • Strong operations, process-orientation, data analytics, or technical expertise to effectively design, develop and implement privacy, compliance and relevant business processes, controls, and workflows

  • Working experience with Agentic AI and its applicability to third-party risk review activities. 

  • Strong judgement and analytical skills in the assessment of ABAC risk review activities that can be transitioned to Agentic AI.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$174,500.00 - $274,230.00


The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
