A look inside Takeda’s manufacturing operations in Singapore

Takeda's Singapore biologics manufacturing facility, conveniently located in Woodlands with easy access to public transportation, facilities, and amenities, focuses on manufacturing potentially life-saving medicines for patients suffering from rare blood disorders such as Hemophilia A and B. As part of the company’s Biologics Operating Unit network, the site is Takeda’s only biologics drug substance manufacturing facility in Asia. Around 400 employees work in this location across teams dedicated to Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, and much more.

The facility has two buildings, including two manufacturing suites and laboratories, as well as Takeda’s first positive energy building certified by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority’s Green Mark scheme in 2022. In the same year, the site’s quality laboratory was awarded with the highest possible level of certification from My Green Lab, a non-profit organization, for its laboratory sustainability practices.

Supporting Takeda’s Sustainability Commitments

The construction and operation of real estate accounts for a significant portion of the world’s carbon footprint. For Takeda, building and running environmental sustainable operations means reducing greenhouse gas emissions and conserving natural resources. The Singapore site is integral to Takeda’s goal of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in our own operations by 2035.

Officially opened recently on 30 March 2023, the positive energy building is not only the first in Takeda’s global manufacturing network but also the first-of-its-kind within Singapore’s biopharmaceutical industry. It raises the bar for energy efficient design, while its cutting-edge technology and engineering set an internal benchmark for new Takeda construction.
