Building a Legacy of Leadership and Belonging Through Our Building Asian Leaders Takeda Resource Group
We’re dedicated to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered to be their authentic selves. Through our Building Asian Leaders (BAL) Takeda Resource Group (TRG), we foster inclusivity year-round. This Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, our community reflects on their legacy as leaders who are building a brighter future.

Jennifer Chen, DE&I Champion Network Manager
After ten years in healthcare, Jen was ready for a new chapter. “I was navigating different parts of my identity—as a woman of color, first-generation American and new mother,” says Jen. In her search for something more personally and professionally fulfilling, she found us.
Joining our organization was Jen’s first experience with a truly global company. Through BAL, Jen quickly saw how people across the business contribute to our shared mission. She especially values our TRGs, which create space to commemorate what matters most. “Celebrating things at work that I celebrate at home with my family has contributed to my sense of belonging at Takeda.”

Lila Li, Senior Compliance Engineer II
For the past decade, Lila has seen our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued. “Takeda actively promotes diverse environments where leaders take deliberate steps to ensure inclusive practices that celebrate cultural differences,” says Lila.
As a BAL leader, Lila helps organize cultural events that recognize diverse backgrounds. “Our mission is to provide a sense of community,” says Lila. Reflecting on this year’s heritage month theme, “a legacy of leadership and resilience,” Lila honors the trailblazers who paved the way. “We should celebrate their legacies, aspire to build on their work and make meaningful impacts toward a brighter, more inclusive future.”

Sandy Zou, Talent Intelligence Lead
As part of the Talent Intelligence team within Talent Acquisition, Sandy uses data and insights to help shape how we attract, engage and grow talent. “It’s a privilege to contribute to a workplace where authenticity and impact go hand in hand,” says Sandy.
Driven by a passion for both personal and professional growth, Sandy saw BAL as a chance to connect with others who share similar experiences while learning from the diverse voices within the Asian community. “It’s important to me that we build a culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging, and BAL gives me a meaningful way to contribute to that mission."

Sobia Farid, Technology Audit Lead
Since day one, Sobia has appreciated our commitment to values and global collaboration. “My Takeda journey continues to be both inspiring and rewarding,” says Sobia.
Through networking, advocacy and fostering a speak-up culture, Sobia views her involvement with BAL as an opportunity to give back while continuing to grow professionally. She is “most looking forward to contributing to initiatives that bridge cross-cultural perspectives and foster inclusive growth for the Asian diaspora.” Reflecting on the sacrifices of her grandparents and parents, Sobia is reminded that we all carry the strength of those who came before us. “Leadership isn’t always about roles, it’s about resilience, advocacy and paving the way for future generations.”
The stories of Jennifer, Lila, Sandy and Sobia reflect our commitment to fostering a culture where every voice is heard and drives our shared success. Learn more about BAL.
