Role Summary:
The Data Engineer is a senior data professional responsible for building, modeling, and optimizing analytics‑ready data pipelines with a strong emphasis on Power BI, enterprise SQL modeling, and self‑service analytics. This role bridges data engineering and business intelligence, enabling scalable reporting, dashboards, and advanced analytics through well‑governed, high‑performance datasets.
The position partners closely with Business Analysts, Data Scientists, and Product teams to translate complex data into trusted insights that drive strategic decision‑making.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop high‑performance SQL data models (fact/dimension tables, star/snowflake schemas) optimized for Power BI and self‑service BI
- Create and optimize Power BI–ready datasets, including semantic models, aggregated tables, and reporting layers
- Partner with business stakeholders and BI developers to define analytical requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions
- Enable Power BI dashboards, KPIs, and reports by delivering reliable, trustworthy, and well‑documented datasets
- Optimize SQL query performance, data refresh strategies, and incremental load patterns for large‑scale reporting workloads
- Implement data quality, validation, and reconciliation checks using statistical and rule‑based approaches
- Support Data Scientists by preparing curated, analysis‑ready datasets for advanced analytics and predictive modeling
- Collaborate with Solution Architects to define end‑to‑end analytics architectures, including cloud, ingestion, modeling, and visualization layers
- Mentor junior engineers and analysts on SQL best practices, data modeling, and Power BI design standards
Required Skills:
- Strong hands‑on experience with Power BI (datasets, data modeling, performance optimization, report enablement)
- Strong understanding of semantic layers, analytical models, and self‑service BI enablement
- Experience supporting enterprise reporting, dashboards, KPIs, and executive insights.
- Expert‑level SQL skills: complex joins, window functions, CTEs, subqueries, query tuning, and performance optimization
- Proven experience designing analytics‑optimized schemas (star, snowflake, dimensional modeling)
- Strong background in data mart and reporting layer design
- Advanced experience designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines in Big Data environments
- Hands‑on expertise with Spark, Hadoop ecosystem, or distributed data platforms
- Experience integrating data across multiple source systems (batch and streaming)
- Proficiency in Python for data transformation and pipeline orchestration
- Solid foundation in software engineering principles, data structures, and algorithmic optimization
- Experience with cloud data platforms and containerized deployments
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and automated data pipeline deployments
Qualifications:
- 5–6 years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or business intelligence roles, with hands‑on ownership of SQL modeling and Power BI–based analytics solutions.
