This role supports Takeda Oncology’s global medical affairs objectives by driving impactful engagement with key external stakeholders—scientific experts, cooperative groups, professional societies, and congresses—to inform medical strategy, evidence generation, and scientific communications. The Lead will collaborate cross-functionally and cross-regionally to ensure alignment with the broader GMAO strategy and Takeda’s enterprise goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Execution

  • Work in partnership to develop and implement oncology external scientific engagement plans aligned with the global GMAO strategy and in partnership with Global Medical Affairs Teams.
  • Lead oncology congress planning and execution, including scientific presence, symposia, booth medical content review (as applicable), and KOL interactions (e.g., ASCO GI, ESMO GI, ASCO, ESMO).
  • Contribute to Independent Medical Education strategy and execution within oncology, ensuring activities address evolving clinical practice gaps and emerging data.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with oncology key opinion leaders (KOLs), cooperative groups, professional societies, and external organizations.
  • Facilitate scientific exchange and insight generation on topics such as biomarker-driven treatment, sequencing, resistance, and novel modalities to inform medical strategy and evidence generation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with OBU functions, region and LOC teams to ensure integrated engagement planning that supports key objectives at brand, asset, and disease-area level.
  • Collaborate with Ethics & Compliance, Legal, and Regulatory to ensure compliant execution of all external-facing scientific activities.

Operational Excellence

  • Support development and tracking of engagement metrics, impact assessments, and reporting for oncology external engagement.
  • Contribute to shared tools, templates, and processes to streamline planning and execution across oncology activities.

Innovation & Best Practices

  • Identify and apply innovative approaches (e.g., digital scientific exchange, hybrid engagement models, data-driven targeting) to enhance oncology engagement effectiveness.
  • Share best practices across disease areas and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or Master’s in a scientific discipline) preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in medical affairs, scientific engagement, or related roles in pharma/biotech; oncology experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the oncology therapeutic landscape, key data readouts, and external scientific environment (societies, cooperative groups, guideline bodies).
  • Experience in congress planning, KOL engagement, scientific exchange, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory standards for external engagement.

Travel Requirements:

Up to 35% international and/or domestic travel.

This role follows a hybrid work model, balancing flexibility with an expectation of on‑site collaboration for 8 days per month.
